A Lahore Qalandars batsman was found guilty of changing the condition of the ball in the match against Karachi Kings.

Pakistan international Fakhar Zaman has been handed a two-match ban after being found guilty of ball-tampering during the T20s in the country’s premier cricket league.

“Zaman has been found guilty of a Level 3 offense of ball tampering and has been suspended for two matches in the Pakistan Super League (PSL),” the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old opener was seen in video footage changing the condition of the ball during the match between his team Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings in Lahore on Sunday night.

The PCB charged Zaman, who denied ball-tampering, at a disciplinary hearing before Sri Lankan match referee Roshan Mahanama.

Mahanama watched television footage showing Qalandars player Zaman, captains Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf and umpire Faisal Afridi inspecting the condition of the ball.

The umpire awarded five penalty runs against Qalandars, who lost the match by four wickets.

Shaheen was also fined $3,500 for breaking the tournament’s strict security protocols.

The PSL will be held behind closed doors and with only two venues instead of six due to fuel supply concerns due to the Iran war.

Afridi was fined by the Qalandars for violating security protocols at the team hotel in Lahore, one of the two host cities for this year’s tournament along with Karachi.

Punjab Police said Afridi was refused permission to have visitors in teammate Sikander Raza’s room, but he complied anyway.

Earlier, fast bowler Naseem Shah was handed the heaviest fine in Pakistan cricket history after criticizing politicians on social media.
