DALLAS (AP) — Three people were shot dead at a US immigration and customs facility in Dallas, and the shooter is dead from self-harm injuries, the agency’s director said.

ACTICE Director Todd Lyons confirmed the shooting in an interview on CNN on Wednesday.

“It could be an employee, it could be a civilian who was visiting the facility, it could be a detainee,” Lions said of the people who were shot. “At this point, we’re still working through it.”

Dallas Police spokesman Jonathan E. Manor said he was taken to the hospital where he was injured in the shooting, where a third party died at the scene after the shooting.

Parkland Hospital received two patients from the incident at the ICE facility, hospital spokesman April Forlan said by phone. She had no details about their terms.

Officers answered a call in support of North Stemmons Freeway officials around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday and preliminary investigation determined that fired from an adjacent building on a government building, Manor said. The investigation was underway and a briefing was expected later that day.

Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem said details were still emerging, but the agency had confirmed at its field office that there were “multiple injuries and deaths.” Noem said the motivation remains unknown, but noted that there was an upside in targeting ice agents.

Dozens of emergency vehicles were seen along the highway near the facility.

The Ice Facility is located on Interstate 35, southwest of Dallas Love Field, and is a large commercial airport serving the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, with city covering everything from hotels to airport travelers.

Traffic cameras near Sheen had six lanes, usually busy highways empty, with cars and semi-trailers stopped at interstate exits.

Ice and Homeland Security did not immediately provide additional details.

The Dallas Fire Department was dispatched at 6:41am after a call reporting a shooting at or near Immigration Bureau, department spokesman Jason L. Evans said in an email. Evans says he hasn’t seen the details he can share, calling it an active and ongoing incident.
