Korean Memory Chip Maker Sk Hynix On Friday, he said it was ready to produce a massive number of next-generation high-bandwidth memory chips, staying ahead of its rivals and surge in the company’s stock.
HBM is a kind of memory used in artificial intelligence computing chipsets, including chips from SK Hynix’s major client, Global Ai Giant Nvidia.
SK Hynix said earlier this year it shipped samples of the HBM4 chip to customers as it attempted to beat competitors such as Samsung Electronics and Micron Technologies.
According to a Friday announcement, the company has completed the internal verification and quality assurance process for the HBM4 and is ready to manufacture something of a large scale.
“Completing the development of HBM4 will be a new milestone for the industry,” said Joohwan Cho, head of HBM development at SK Hynix.
HBM4 is the sixth generation of HBM technology, a type of dynamic random access memory, or DRAM. DRAM can be found on personal computers, workstations, and servers and is used to store data and program code.
SK Hynix’s latest HBM4 products have doubled the bandwidth and increased power efficiency by 40% compared to previous generations.
In particular, the HBM4 is expected to become the leading AI memory chip needed for Nvidia’s next-generation Rubin Architecture, the more powerful AI chip in the global data center.
“SK Hynix is an important supplier of Nvidia and the announcement shows that it is far ahead of its rivals,” he said.
Samsung Electronics and Micron are struggling to keep up with HBM’s Sk Hynix. It is based on the segment leadership and interests of being a leading HBM supplier for Nvidia.
Micron has shipped samples of HBM4 products to customers, but Samsung is reportedly working to get certified with HBM4 chips by NVIDIA. However, analysts expect SK Hynix’s advantage to continue until next year.
The company’s shares rose more than 7% on Friday, reaching its highest since 2000, reaching about 90% per year, following the announcement of tips. Samsung Electronics and Micron shares rose nearly 80% in 2025, exceeding 40%, respectively.
SK Hynix recorded record operating profit and revenue for the June quarter, thanks to strong HBM demand, which accounted for 77% of overall revenue, due to strong HBM demand.
The company expects to double HBM sales over the year compared to 2024, and demand from AI will continue to grow until 2026.
