nvidia Openai also discusses its support for key investments in the UK, focusing on boosting the country’s artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The two tech companies have discussed a significant number of transactions to support the country’s data center development, but it could ultimately be worth billions of dollars. Those familiar with the issue spoke to CNBC and confirmed previous reports from the Financial Times.
Currently, the company said it is still working together on various processes at Nvidia and Cloud Computing Firm Nscale.
They added that the investment contract has not yet been finalized. President Donald Trump’s visit to the UK will be announced next week.
Nvidia and Nscale did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment. Openai declined to comment on the discussion.
Countries around the world are courting major American AI players to enhance their own domestic infrastructure and technological ambitions.
Topics of so-called “sovereign” AI – the idea of overseeing the data processing infrastructure behind advanced artificial intelligence systems was the best mind for the authorities as the government aims to reduce reliance on foreign countries for critical technologies.
The UK government declined to comment when asked by CNBC about investment debates with Openai, Nvidia and Nscale. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is scheduled to join Trump on his state’s visit to the UK next week.
Earlier this year, Nvidia boss called the UK “an incredible place to invest” and said his dozens of dollars chipmaker would encourage investment in the country. “The UK is in Goldilocks situation,” Han said at the time during a panel discussion with British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer.
