Curtis Swawa, the Republican candidate in the New York mayor’s race, said Wednesday he received at least seven calls from “envoys” of wealthy people who repeatedly provided him with money to end his campaign.
Sliwa condemned the offers as “unethical and illegal.”
And he warned that if he received another such offer, he would begin to reveal the names of the wealthy New Yorkers who made them, NBC affiliate WNBC reported.
Sliwa reiterated his vow not to suspend his campaign.
“I hope to die beyond my heart,” the Guardian Angels founder told WNBC when asked if he plans to stay in the race until Election Day, November 4th.
President Donald Trump has suggested that Sliwa and Mayor Eric Adams will drop out of the race and clear the path to a one-on-one matchup between former governor Andrew Cuomo and Democratic candidate Zoran Mamdani.
“I think Cuomo might have a chance to win if it’s one-on-one,” said Trump, who called Mamdani a “communist.”
Mamdani is a self-proclaimed democratic socialist.
Adams and Cuomo are both Democrats, but run as independents.
Recent polls show that Mamdani is in the comfort of leading Cuomo, with Adams and Swa catching up with a wide margin.
