Michael Douglas and Rob Reiner had a lot in common.
A week after the Misery director and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner were found dead, the Wall Street actor detailed the conflict the couple faced with their son Nick Reiner, who was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the unique circumstances of a multiple murder.
“Due to this terrible tragedy, we recognize the amount of pressure he was under in his personal life with his son,” Michael said on the CBS News “Rob Reiner Scenes from a Life” special on Dec. 21.
The 81-year-old said that like Nick, his son Cameron Douglas, 47, with ex-wife Deandra Rooker, also struggles with drugs, and he and Rob discussed their shared experiences.
“I also had a son who had a drug problem,” explained Michael, who is also the father of Dylan Douglas, 24, and his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Carys Douglas, 22. “I’m happy to say he got through those and is living a rich life. We talked a lot about that and what we can and can’t do as parents. He knew everything that was going on behind the scenes and he was a guy who always tried his best.”
