Manchester City and Manchester United have spent their fortunes on some of the world’s best offensive players, but Sunday’s derby will be in the spotlight on goalkeepers.
City secured Gianluigi Donnaruma from Paris Saint-Germain, and United landed Belgian International Sen Lammen on the relocation deadline to resolve the lineup issues.
United confirmed on Friday that Runmen won’t start with goals, but the focus is on those trying to stop the goal rather than score.

Mayor Pep Guardiola says he is willing to adapt the team’s approach following Donnaruma’s signature, and says he doesn’t expect the Italian to offer the same ball-playing ability as the late Adason Moraz.
After joining the Fenerbafs last week and completing an eight-year spell with City trophies, Ederson revolutionised the position of English football goalkeeper with his distribution and technical skills.
That fits him perfectly with Guardiola’s style of play, but the same cannot be said about Donalma either. Donnaruma is a great shot stopper whose strength doesn’t pass the ball from behind.
Donnaruma is competing for the City debut against United following his move from Paris Saint-Germain, but Guardiola did not confirm whether Italian International would begin.
“I’m always trying to adapt to the quality of my players,” Guardiola said Friday. “I don’t ask Gigi to do anything uncomfortable.
“We’re talking with Ederson about the best players we’ve seen in distribution, either short or long. We didn’t take Gigi with us to do what Ederson did. Gigi has a different quality.”
Guardiola said he was “not trying to undermine” Donnaruma by pointing out Adason’s qualities, and shone on the strengths of his new signature.
“He’s very tall. He’s so huge,” Guardiola said with a smile. “He’s a big presence at a big stage.
“What he did in the Champions League at Villa Park in Anfield last season proves how good a lot of games are.”
Guardiola said he first met Donnarumma on Wednesday, but on Thursday he didn’t watch the train.
“I know,” Guardiola said when asked if Donnaruma would come for James Trafford, who started City’s first three games in the Premier League, he was asked if he had won at Wolverhampton before consecutive defeats to Tottenham and Brighton.

Altay Bayindir continues United’s goal in the derby match despite signing by Belgian International Lammens.
The goalkeeper position was a problem for United manager Ruben Amorim, who loaned last year’s first choice, Andre Onana, to Turkish club Trabzonspor on Thursday.
Bayindir has made some high-profile errors, especially from the ball to the box.
“Altai will continue,” Amorim said Friday. “It’s a different league, it’s a different country, a different training, a different ball, so we try to keep it up.
“They will fight for positions. It’s clear that Altey will start in this game.”
Lunmen is little known outside of their home country. Amorim said he is a goalkeeper with “great potential.”
“I know that goalkeepers are in a moment where they really have to be strong and have a lot of experience,” he said.
Amorim added that Lammens is a keeper who can “give us something different” and could become United’s first choice “for years.”
On Onana’s departure, Amorim added: “The pressure is very intense with all the details at this club. There may be changes needed.”

City, which ended their four-year title reign last season, is catching up after just three games (1-2). Back-to-back defeats to Tottenham and Brighton underscore concerns that Guardiola’s team is not equipped with the ability to challenge the top.
United lost their first day meeting with Arsenal and led their second match at Fulham. The Gunners’ trip to Old Trafford and the first half of London were significantly improved from the Amorim side, playing a 3-4-3 formation.
However, the second half against Fulham was overwhelming, as was the same as the 3-2 victory over Burnley.
Before that match, United were dumped from the League Cup on a penalty at Grimsby Town in the fourth tier.

Striker Omar Marmash misses Sunday’s match against United after hurting his knee on an international mission with Egypt.
On Tuesday, Marmash was injured early in the day against his country’s World Cup qualifying game.
“The initial results of the scans run in Egypt show that he is not available for the Manchester Derby on Sunday, and he will return to Manchester to make more evaluations and begin his rehabilitation,” Manchester City said in a statement. “Everyone in the City wants Omar to recover quickly.”
The 26-year-old forward has joined City’s long list of injuries, among the few players John Stones and Phil Foden missed the international game.
City didn’t specify how quickly Marmash would return. City will launch its Champions League campaign against Napoli on September 18th.
Egypt’s match was a 0-0 draw. That means Egypt will have to wait to see its location at next year’s World Cup.

Matheus Cunha, Diogo Dalot and Mason Mount are all missed Sunday’s games.
Amorim said he “don’t know” how long the trio will not be available.
