The experience certainly bonded Jen and Elizabeth (who is serving more than 11 years in prison for defrauding investors in the health startup she founded), but it wasn’t the only time they spent together.
“We were both very busy during the day, so in the evening we would go for walks,” Jen said. “Then you have time to just talk. Talk about how much you missed your family. Talk about important things that were happening in prison.”
In fact, the 52-year-old has two grown sons. Sharif Shah-The two said that their bond deepened through “deep conversations.”
“Being in prison is very heartbreaking,” Jen added. “So it’s just having someone there who understands you and acts as a sounding board for you and you can be like, ‘Hey, I just want to walk and cry.’
And Jen and Elizabeth were also in the same facility. Ghislaine Maxwell– Currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking conspiracy – Jen chose not to get to know her.
“I chose it,” she said. “I have decided to limit my interactions with her very much.”
