James Van Der Beek didn’t want to wait to live his life to the fullest.
The actor, who gained popularity for playing the title character on Dawson’s Creek, passed away on February 11th after a battle with colorectal cancer. He was 48 years old.
The Varsity Blues star is survived by his wife Kimberly Van Der Beek and their children Olivia (15), Joshua (13), Annabelle (12), Emilia (9), Gwendolyn (7) and four-year-old Jeremiah.
“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed away peacefully this morning,” a statement posted to James and Kimberly’s Instagram account read. “He met his final days with courage, faith and grace.”
“He has so much to share, including his wishes, his love for humanity, and the sacredness of time,” the message continued. “That day will come. We ask for peace and privacy at this time as we grieve for our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”
Throughout his long health journey, James has been supported by family and friends, including his Dawson’s Creek co-stars Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and Michelle Williams, who sent their love when he was forced to miss a cast reunion in September.
