August 22: Rebecca Haro and Jake Haro are arrested.
Days after the search for the child, authorities realized that Jake had a lawyer and was beginning to notice “inconsistencies” in Rebecca’s abduction story. Two days later, on August 22, 2025, Jake and Rebecca were arrested and charged with murdering their son and filing a false police report.
“This morning, Detectives with the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail Unit and Special Enforcement Unit arrested Jake and Rebecca Haro for the murder of PC 187 at their home in Cabazon,” authorities wrote in an Instagram post the day of their arrest, adding the following day: “Based on the evidence, investigators have determined that a kidnapping in Yucaipa did not occur. Mr. Emmauel is believed to be deceased and a search is currently underway to recover his body.” ”
Despite being arrested, the parents maintained their innocence.
“I’m not giving up,” Rebecca told a Southern California News Group reporter, according to the Press-Enterprise. “I’m not giving up on the baby.”
And after Jake’s 2021 child endangerment charges (Jake pled guilty in 2023) resurfaced, Rebecca insisted in the same interview that “he would never hurt a baby.”
