Intel In early discussions AMD According to a report from Semafor, manufacturing chips through its casting business.
Intel shares rose 7% on Wednesday. AMD shares rose more than 1%.
If AMD starts manufacturing chips with Intel, it would be a big win for the Foundry business of a company currently looking for major customers. Analysts say large customers will allow Intel Foundry to confidently invest in developing manufacturing technology, allowing Intel to send signals to other chip companies that can handle the business.
It also shows that AMD, which competes with Intel on X86-based chips for PCs and servers, is confident that it will be manufacturing at its biggest competitor.
According to a report by Semafor’s Rohan Goswami, it is unclear how many manufacturers AMD will do with Intel. AMD is currently manufacturing chips TSMC.
Over the past few weeks, Intel has added several key investors, including the US government, Nvidia and SoftBank. All of this was considered a vote of trust as the company was trying to turn its fortunes under new CEO Lip-Bu Tan. However, Nvidia was not committed to using Intel foundries.
Intel’s stock has so far risen nearly 77% in 2025 as investors gain more trust in chip makers.
Intel representative declined to comment.
“AMD has not commented on rumors or speculation,” said an AMD spokesperson.
