Defending champion India survived Pasm Nissanka’s ferocious 100 and intense superdrama after beating Sri Lanka with a deadly rubber to maintain an unbeaten run in the Asian Cup on Friday.

The Super Four clash was merely an academic interest as India already secured their position in the Sunday finals with Pakistan and Sri Lanka, but it turned out to be the most exciting game of this year’s tournament.

Sri Lanka gave a good explanation of itself, matching India’s 202-5, forcing the super after Nissanka (107) destroyed the first 100 individuals of this year’s tournament.

However, Sri Lanka managed only two runs at the Super before losing both wickets on five deliveries from Arshep Singh.

Indian skipper Suryakumaryadav has sealed the victory issue by winning three runs from his first delivery from Waindi Hasaranga.

Previously, India, a world champion in 20 overs, won the tournament’s first 200 or more riding opener Abhisheksharma three times in a row.

Abhishek, the world’s top-ranked T20 batter, maintained his red-hot form with a 61 ball from 31 balls to a hot 61 ball.

And skipper Suryakumar (12) continued his form slump, but India didn’t really suffer as Abhishek competed for 22 balls 50.

Sri Lankan captain Chalis Asaranka removed Abhishek, but Tirak Balma and Sanju Samson (39), who had 49, maintained pressure on Sri Lankan bowlers.

In their pursuit, Sri Lanka first lost Kusal Mendis for the duck, but after six power playovers they cruised to 72-1.

India rested paced spearhead Jasplit Bumra, and Hardik Pandya bowled only one before leaving the field.

Nissanka needed 25 balls to raise his 50, and Kusar Perera (58) could not deny his half century either.

Spinner Varun Chakravarthy defeated the stands for 127 runs when he rejected Perera.

Nissanka raced 100 of 52 balls, but fell to the first ball last.
