If you’re intrigued by TikTok’s color analysis videos, you’re not alone.
We’re all about color analysis, so we spoke to Sarah Sim, a personal color consultant at Yoni Color Studio, to find out how to determine color season at home and what to wear based on your palette.
What is color phenology analysis?
“Color analysis is the process of finding colors that naturally highlight your features,” explains Sarah. Consider how hair color, eye color, undertone, and contrast interact.
“We combine these four elements to find the best color season and palette for our customers.”
How can I find my color season at home?
Rather than clinging to the myth that vein color determines undertone (according to Sarah, it’s not a reliable method), the best expert hack is to try a few neutral colors at home and analyze how they look, especially with whites and creams.
“If you feel that your features look sharper and that wearing bright white makes you look more defined and clean, you’re more likely to have cool undertones,” explains Sarah. “And if you look a little washed out with cool, bright whites and softer and more vibrant with creams and ivories, you’re more likely to have warm undertones.”
Although not the only factor that determines the seasonality of a color, undertone is the first step in determining whether it is summer or winter (cool undertones) or spring or fall (warm undertones).
