Google announced Thursday it is deploying Gemini for Chrome to all Mac and Windows desktop users in the US after previously restricting functionality to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers. Tech Giant has also announced that in the future it will add AI mode search functionality and add AI mode search functionality to the address bar, including using AI to combat AI-generating fraud using AI, deploying automatic password reset, and AI mode search functionality to the address bar.
US users with the language set to English can ask Chemini to clarify complex information on the web page they are reading using the Gemini icon in the upper corner of the Chrome window. For example, you can open a page with a banana bread recipe and ask Gemini to make gluten in the recipe free.

Gemini can now work on multiple tabs, allowing users to quickly compare and summarise information across multiple websites. For example, you can plan flights, hotels, and holidays on multiple tabs and work with Gemini to organize your trips. Alternatively, you may be purchasing a new mattress and want to compare all the different models you see across multiple tabs.
Gemini will soon be able to retrieve web pages you visit, making it easier to return to past browsing sessions without sifting through your browser history. This means you can ask something like, “On the site where I saw Walnut Desk last week.” Or, “What blog did you read when you went back to school?”

Additionally, Google is beginning to deeper integrations between Chrome’s Gemini and other Google apps such as Calendar, YouTube, and Maps. Google says this allows users to hold schedule meetings and more. For example, if you are trying to find a specific location in a YouTube video, you can have Gemini take you there.
Google points out that AI assistants can complete boring tasks, such as booking haircuts and ordering weekly groceries. Gemini can take you to the site, add things to your cart, check out with payment options and take the final action.

Google said the new agent feature will be available in Chrome in the coming months. It is worth noting that earlier this year, OpenAI launched an operator, an AI agent that performs tasks autonomously.

Google brings AI mode, an advanced search feature, directly to the Chrome address bar. In AI mode, users can ask complex questions in follow-up to dig deeper into topics. For example, instead of searching for “best mattress”, you can continue your search using a query such as “I’m an occasional side sleeper with back pain. I can enter a table that compares different mattress types directly into the address bar. From there, you can ask a follow-up question and continue the search using a query such as “How long does a memory foam mattress usually last?”
The update will be rolled out in the US in English later this month and will expand to more countries and languages in the future.
Also, coming to the address bar is that you can ask questions about the page you are on. Chrome can now suggest related questions based on the context of the page to start a search in the address bar. Google says it gets a useful AI overview and an option to ask follow-up questions in AI mode.

The company says Chrome can quickly use the Gemini Nano model to detect and protect fraud, such as fake virus alerts and fraudulent giveaways. These scams often spoof trustworthy brands and use generation AI to create persuasive phishing attempts, Google points out.
Google has also announced that it will use AI to allow users to fix compromised passwords by clicking one click on supported sites such as Coursera, Spotify, Duolingo, H&M. If Chrome warns you that your password has been published due to a data breach, you can create and save a new password.
