asked the House committee investigating notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. goldman sachs” Top lawyer Kathryn Ruemmler will testify about her interactions with Epstein, her spokeswoman announced Tuesday.
“Mr. Remler welcomes the opportunity to appear before the committee,” spokeswoman Jennifer Connelly said.
“At the time she was interacting with Jeffrey Epstein, she was an active criminal defense attorney and a fellow client of his,” Connelly said. “She did nothing wrong and had no knowledge of any ongoing criminal activity on his part.”
The House Oversight Committee asked Rümmler to appear before the committee about three weeks after he said he would leave Goldman Sachs at the end of June.
Rümmler’s announcement came after a new wave of media reports highlighting his often friendly email exchanges with Epstein.
Earlier Tuesday, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick voluntarily agreed to testify before the Oversight Committee about his relationship with Mr. Epstein, the Oversight Committee Chairman, Republican Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, announced.
Lutnick, who was Epstein’s neighbor in New York, admitted in testimony before the Senate Appropriations Committee last month that he and his family visited Epstein’s private island in the Caribbean in 2012.
Mr. Lutnick previously claimed that he had stopped contacting Mr. Epstein several years before that visit.
