German authorities have arrested three Hamas foreign operatives who believe they are preparing serious violence in Germany, prosecutors said Wednesday.
The three men are suspected by prosecutors to be involved in procuring firearms and ammunition in Hamas, at least since this summer, to be used for assassinations targeting the German Israeli or Jewish system.
“During the course of today’s arrests, various weapons were discovered, including an AK 47 attack rifle and several pistols, as well as a considerable amount of ammunition,” federal prosecutors said in a statement.
The three identified in line with German Privacy Act only identified Wael FM, born in Lebanon, and Wael FM, a German citizen Ahmad I., as Abed Al G. Abed Al G.
In February, four Hamas suspected of plotting an attack on European Jewish institutions were brought to trial in Berlin for what prosecutors described as the first lawsuit against extremists in German Muslim groups.
The Der Spiegel Media Outlet reported that anti-terrorist investigators observed how the accused met in Berlin on Wednesday for the extradition of the weapons before operations forces intervened and discovered the functional weapons.
