Former Premier League referee David Cootte pleaded not guilty to creating indecent imagery of a child at a British court hearing.

The 43-year-old appeared in Nottingham Magistrates Court on Thursday and was charged with allegations relating to video recovered by police in February.

Coote, wearing a navy suit, sat behind the courthouse, confirming his name and date of birth, and spoke only to enter into his plea at the 18-minute hearing.

Accusations of creating obscene images of children refer to activities such as downloading, sharing and storing photos and videos.

The former judge was granted conditional bail by District Judge Gillian Young and was told to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on October 9th.

Coote was fired from his host role in December after a video revealed showing him making a disrespectful statement about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in 2020.

He was also banned from presiding by the European Governing Body UEFA until June 2026 after another video appeared showing him smoking white powder through banknotes while in Germany for Euro 2024.

In an interview in January, Koote came out as a gay and said his struggle to hide his sexuality contributed to a bad choice.
