Figma partners with Google to add Gemini AI to its design platform

Design platform Figma is partnering with Google to add AI capabilities, the company announced Thursday. While Figma previously introduced its own AI app building tools, the new integration with Google brings several Gemini models to the design software, allowing Figma to meet the “evolving needs” of product designers and their teams.

The partnership adds Gemini 2.5 Flash, Gemini 2.0, and Imagen 4 to Figma’s toolset while the company maintains its relationship with Google Cloud.

Gemini 2.5 Flash will be integrated into the image editing process and Figma’s image generation capabilities, allowing the software’s 13 million monthly active users to create AI images and request changes with prompts. The company cited previous testing of Gemini 2.5 Flash included in its products where users saw a 50% reduction in latency with the company’s “Make Image” feature, and believes this addition will speed up workflows.

The partnership is now one of several by top AI manufacturers aiming to integrate models within existing apps with large user bases looking to gain an edge in the fierce competition for consumer adoption. For example, OpenAI announced this week that users can “chat” with apps in ChatGPT, including apps like Spotify, Booking.com, Expedia, Coursera, Zillow, Canva, and more. Figma is also included in that list, showing that its deal with Google Gemini is not exclusive.

News of the partnership with Figma comes at the same time as Google’s Gemini Enterprise announcement. Gemini Enterprise is an AI-powered conversation platform designed to deliver AI to enterprise customers within their existing workflows. This means users will be able to chat with their company’s documents, data, and applications, and engineers will have access to tools to build and deploy AI agents or use their existing agent suites.

Google positioned the news as a victory for AI’s potential to increase efficiency and improve workflows. Companies that become dependent on AI integration will likely pay a price. This is a strategic move as consumers are driving the benefits of AI while corporate GenAI pilots often fail.

To counter this, Google pointed out that 65% of Google Cloud customers use its AI products.

In addition to the deal with Figma, Google also announced AI deals with GAP, Gordon Foods, Klarna, Macquarie Bank, Melexis, Mercedes, Signal Iduna, Valiuz, and Virgin Voyages. These join existing partners using Gemini, including Banco BV, Behr, Box, DBS Bank, Deloitte, Deutsche Telekom, FairPrice Group, and the US Department of Energy.
