joby aviation The air taxi maker has purchased a 700,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Dayton, Ohio, as it prepares to meet its production goals for electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles, also known as eVTOLs, the company announced Wednesday.
The new location is the company’s second in Ohio and more than doubles the size of its manufacturing site, the company said. The company also reiterated its plan to more than double its production capacity to four aircraft per month by 2027, which it announced last year.
CEO Joben Bebert said the facility supports Joby’s future growth plans and ties into its efforts to revitalize the commercial and defense aerospace industries in the continental United States.
“The reindustrialization of Ohio is at the heart of Mr. Joby’s story, and with unparalleled government and policy support, we are poised to ensure that the civil and defense aircraft that define the future of flight are built right here in America,” Bebert said in a release announcing the news.
Air taxi manufacturers like Joby have expanded manufacturing in recent months, building out production facilities to support the rapidly growing market and gain an edge over competitors.
