Ethan, 55, has barely mentioned his divorce from the Kill Bill actress since their split. However, more than 20 years after Ethan and Uma separated, the father of four has opened up about his true feelings about the cheating rumors that were circulating at the time.
“It’s humiliating,” Ethan admitted in an interview with GQ published on September 1. “Even when they’re saying positive things, it’s almost humiliating.”
Reflecting on her five-year romance with Ethan, also 55, Uma – whom she met on the set of Gattaca in 1997 before marrying in 1998 – has remained faithful throughout the years for the sake of their two children.
In 2006, she said at Parade, “I can’t participate in anything critical about the father of my children.” “I just need to keep the peace. I think it’s safe to say I haven’t said a single mean thing and I’m not going to start now. It’s terrible for my family.”
That said, Uma was also unhappy with the media coverage of the divorce at the time.
“If I see one more headline about it, I’ll gag,” she said. “I’m just an American woman in an unfulfilling, broken marriage.”
Rather, she turned her attention to getting through a difficult chapter in her life. In her words, “We need to be willing to be tolerant.”
Ethan is lamenting the end of his marriage being thrust into the spotlight, but they’re not the only stars who have overcome their breakups. For more friendly ex-lovers, keep reading.
