Bloody photos of Caroline Flack’s apartment leaked
On January 1, 2020, The Sun published a photo taken from her apartment on the night of the incident with Lewis. (At the time, Lewis denied that it was his own blood in the photo, writing on his Instagram Story, “This blood is not mine and I didn’t get hit in the head with a lamp.”)
In the documentary, friends and family of Caroline claimed the blood depicted in the graphic images was the TV presenter’s self-inflicted injuries, and her agent Louise Booth said Caroline had “reacted badly” to the leaking of the photos “out of embarrassment”.
However, the paper defended its decision to publish the photo. In a statement, a spokesperson for The Sun told producers: “Caroline Flack was a well-known television personality. While it is now clear that the decision to charge her with a crime was not in the public interest, reporting on that decision was in the public interest and attracted significant media coverage.”
The spokesperson continued: “This article was subject to an intense editorial legal process before publication, and repeated statements at the court hearing included Mr Burton’s assertion that he did not hit Ms Flack with the lamp.”
