Law & Order: SVU’s Christopher Meloni addresses his ‘love’ comment in season 27 premiere
Benson and Stabler’s ending doesn’t have to be especially heinous.
Indeed, when the time comes, Christoper Meloni, who plays Det. Elliot Stabler, who plays opposite Mariska Hargitay’s Captain Olivia Benson in the Law & Order series, is hoping for a special ending for his former SVU partners.
“There’s some closure for Benson and Stabler,” Christopher told People magazine in an interview published on November 8. “I think both Stabler and Benson’s characters should ride into the sunset,” he said.
Fans first learned about Benson and Stabler when the long-running procedural drama premiered in 1999. Fans have been hoping for some kind of romance between the two ever since – especially after Meloni’s character left the role in 2011, making occasional appearances on SVU, as well as returning to the Law & Order organization in 2021 to lead the Peacock organized crime spinoff.
“It’s hard when Benson and Stabler get together! It’s hard,” Christopher quipped about the idea of the two being in a romantic relationship, noting that there is an element to their friendship that makes things “sexy.”
