Charles III is starting the new year with good news.
Almost two years after being diagnosed with cancer, the British monarch announced that his treatment schedule could be “shortened” by 2026 “thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and compliance with ‘doctor’s orders'”.
“This milestone is both a personal celebration and a testament to the remarkable progress made in cancer treatment in recent years,” Charles said in a pre-recorded video broadcast on Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer special on December 12. “I hope this testimony will inspire the 50 per cent of us who will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in our lives.”
Reflecting on his “overwhelming” diagnosis, the 77-year-old emphasized the role early detection plays in survival, “giving the medical team precious time and the patient the precious gift of hope.”
“Early diagnosis quite simply saves lives,” he continued. “I also know how much of a difference it has made in my own case, allowing me to continue to live a full and active life while undergoing treatment.”
