Channing Tatum is always up for a challenge as a father.
That’s why the actor, who has a 12-year-old daughter, Everly, with ex-wife Jenna Dewan, fully understands the complexities behind the father figure in Josephine.
“Parenting is hard and it changes every day,” he exclusively told E! “Sometimes you have to be the tough parent, and sometimes you have to be the kind sidekick that just loves them and that’s it,” said Will Malfudge, director of News, who attended the Sundance Film Festival premiere on January 23.
But Channing, 45, didn’t just draw on his own parenting scenarios when he was cast to play Damian in Beth de Araujo’s thriller.
“It’s a different character from what I’ve played before,” he explained. “I got a lot from my dad on the road. I think (Damian) is a bit of a mix between me and my dad.”
Another challenge he faced while raising his children: Being “cool” wasn’t enough for his teenage daughter, who says she’s seen “tons” of his movies but remains unimpressed.
“She was like, ‘I don’t want to see that anyway,'” he told E! last year. “She’s acting like she doesn’t care.”
