How Billie Lourd explained the cause of mother Carrie Fisher’s death to her 5-year-old son
Billie Lourd is active in many high-class circles, but there’s one club she never wanted to join.
But ever since she lost her mother, Carrie Fisher, two days after Christmas in 2016, she has become a member of the Dead Parents Club.
In the nearly 10 years since then, the 33-year-old actress has turned heartbreak into purpose by sharing with the world her innermost thoughts and her experience of loss, including its many ups and downs.
It was therefore expected that Billy would begin our story of grief with the enthusiastic words, “We love the club!” And it didn’t take long for her to realize how big a role her membership played in her life.
“One of the most joyful and important things I can do is talk about grief, because people don’t talk about it enough,” she continued. “Until I went through it myself, I didn’t really have a lot of references for people who had gone through something similar, so I feel like it’s really important for me to be honest because it’s such a complicated thing.”
Take, for example, the Scream Queens alum’s reflection on what would have been Carrie’s 69th birthday.
