Survivor only picks one winner each season, but not all contestants leave the island.
Because while the island and lack of sanitation may not seem like the best environment to find love, there’s no shortage of showmances that arise from real-life competition. Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano and Amber Mariano are perhaps the most famous pair on the series, with their strategic alliance turning into a genuine romance in Season 8. Rob proposed to Amber during the season finale, and the two married in 2005.
More than 20 years later, their love still surpasses any reality show romance, and the couple has expanded their family with the birth of Lucia (16), Karina (15), Isabetta (13), and Adelina (11). Although the two met in a non-traditional setting, Amber believes that crossing paths on Survivor helped them find a genuine connection without superficial distractions.
Amber said in 2020, “The way our relationship started was very different than anyone has ever experienced dating. When you’re on ‘Survivor,’ you can’t even brush your teeth, you can’t even comb your hair, you can’t even change your clothes.”
