islamabad — Pakistan said Sunday it had carried out airstrikes on militant camps across the border in Afghanistan in a significant test of the uneasy peace between the neighbors. Pakistan’s intelligence ministry announced that its military had carried out an “intelligence-based selective operation” against seven camps belonging to militant groups responsible for a series of recent deadly attacks in the country. The airstrikes targeted the Pakistani Taliban, also known as Tehreek Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and its affiliates, as well as groups associated with the Islamic State. Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defense acknowledged the attack in a statement, calling it a “clear…

Every weekday, Jim Cramer’s CNBC Investment Club releases the Homestretch, a practical afternoon update to coincide with the last hour of trading on Wall Street. The S&P 500 rose in volatile trading Friday. The news of the day was that the Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s emergency tariffs in a 6-3 decision. In response, President Trump said in the afternoon that he would impose a 10% tariff worldwide under Section 122. These new tariffs can only last for 150 days unless extended by further action by Congress. President Trump pointed out that the Supreme Court’s decision does not…
Kyiv — An explosion that struck the western Ukrainian city of Lviv early Sunday killed at least one person and injured dozens more in what authorities labeled a “terrorist attack.” The Lviv District Prosecutor’s Office said the explosion occurred as police responded to an emergency call about a break-in at a store near the city center. The first incident occurred after police arrived at the scene, and another occurred after a second member arrived, the paper said. Prosecutors said the attack killed a 23-year-old female police officer and damaged a police car and a civilian vehicle. The Lviv District Prosecutor’s…
Wall Street is bracing for President Donald Trump’s new tariff plans next week following Friday’s Supreme Court ruling, while traders are wary of escalating tensions with Iran and keeping an eye on Nvidia’s latest earnings. Stocks oscillated between gains and losses on Friday after the high court ruled that President Trump had wrongly invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to enforce reciprocal tariffs. In response, President Trump said he would use authority contained in other trade laws to impose a new 10% “universal tariff.” Major market averages initially rallied following the Supreme Court ruling, but rebounded after a…
(For practical recommendations and nightly live videos, check out Mr. Carter’s worthycharting.com.) Portable generator maker Generac Holdings (GNRC) went from being a darling benefit of the coronavirus to being both admired and loathed in its wake. From $76 per share at the March 2020 pandemic lows, Generac soared to $524 per share in 2021, but lost 85% of its value, returning to $79, bringing the entire pandemic cycle to a close. But since then, the stock has continued to rise from the ashes and is poised to rise further in the coming week and months. We continue to add longs…
london — Most of the time, the country’s top newspapers display various photos on their front pages. But on Friday, the images on Britain’s front pages were all the same. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is pictured leaving a police station on his 66th birthday. He was hunched over in the back seat of the car, looking shocked. On Thursday, Mountbatten-Windsor became the first member of the British royal family to be arrested in modern history, spending more than 10 hours in police custody at a train station in the small British town of Aylesham, about an hour away from his new home…

That’s a 14.2% increase from the previous year, according to Internal Revenue Service data. Reuters — Students staged protests at several Iranian universities as the new academic year began on Saturday, with some clashing with pro-government groups, according to local news agencies and posts on social media. The protests coincided with ceremonies traditionally held 40 days later to commemorate those killed by security forces during last month’s anti-government demonstrations, which left thousands dead in the worst domestic unrest since Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. Video reportedly showed a line of marchers marching at Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology, denouncing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a “murderous leader” and calling for Reza Pahlavi, the exiled…
As they say, being dark isn’t the only thing policed. I’m talking about “Mad Money” being taken off the air in recent weeks in time for the Winter Olympics. On the regular Friday edition of the show, we’ll be explaining our game plan for next week, so let’s do it here. “Mad Money” is Monday, a light day on the calendar. But I’m obviously sensitive about tensions in the Middle East and what President Donald Trump might do with Iran. This conflict is entirely about regime change. The president appears to believe that Iran has been free-riding on whatever it…
