Amazon It eliminates programs that allow members of the Prime Subscription Program to share free shipping perks with people outside of their homes.
According to a notification seen by CNBC, the company recently began notifying users that it plans to close its Prime Invitee program on October 1st.
“We are writing to inform you that the Prime Invitee program, which enabled Prime’s prompt and free delivery with others, will end on October 1, 2025,” the notification states. “Invited guests will be notified directly of this change by September 5th, 2025.”
Amazon previously lets Prime members share a free two-day delivery with one other adult in their home, even if they use a different address.
Starting next month, the company will require invitees who do not live with the account owner to sign up for their primary membership.
We are phased out the program in favour of the Amazon family. This allows Prime members to share free shipping and other benefits for up to four adults and up to four teens added by April 7, 2025.
All users should share the same primary address, or “the address you consider to be your home and where you spend most of your time,” Amazon said.
The change, as reported by Reuters on Monday, reported that Amazon’s major sign-ups in the US fell below last year’s totals and its own targets, citing internal company documents. Amazon told the outlet that Prime membership continues to grow in the US and internationally.
