Adyen stock plummets after weaker-than-expected sales growth outlook

Dutch payment giant AdienThe company’s stock price fell by as much as 20% after it announced slightly lower-than-expected net revenue guidance and payment processing volume.

According to LSEG estimates, the company expects net revenue growth of 20% to 22% in 2026, while analysts expect 22.8% year-over-year growth.

“This outlook is supported by a strong pipeline and continued product growth for 2025, providing a solid foundation for the year ahead,” Adyen said in a letter to shareholders. “We expect market volume growth to remain broadly in line with 2025 levels, reflecting continued macroeconomic uncertainty.”

Adyen processed 745.3 billion euros ($885.5 billion) in payments in the second half of the year, lower than KBC Securities’ expected sales of 771 billion euros.

“Today’s results and next year’s outlook are broadly positive, but may not be enough to reverse the very negative sentiment toward the payments sector seen recently,” KBC Securities said in a Thursday morning note.

As of 11:15 a.m. local time, the stock was down 16%, and the stock is down about 16% so far this year.

Adyen reported that net revenue increased by 17% year-on-year on a reported basis to reach €1.27 billion, with both EMEA and North America increasing by 17% each.

Net sales growth was “reduced by slower growth and a weaker U.S. dollar” for the Asia-Pacific-headquartered online retailer, the company said.

Net revenue from APAC customers accelerated slightly to 14% growth. Adyen reports that this is primarily due to deepening relationships with existing customers.

Net revenue for the second half of the year was broadly in line with analyst expectations.

Adyen’s stock price has fluctuated significantly in recent years. The company’s stock price fell 39% in August 2023 after it reported lower-than-expected sales and lower profits in the first half of this year.
