MetaEfforts to expand your core business from online advertising include pitching a chat tool powered by corporate AI that can be used on your website.
The social media giant debuted a digital assistant called Business AI on Thursday, describing the software as a way to provide a faster way to buy products via customer-personalized product recommendations and chat interactions. Online retailers can use Business AI Digital Assistant on apps such as Facebook and Instagram, and use their own Shopify-powered websites.
The new company-centric artificial intelligence assistant represents another way that Meta is trying to create a large company that incorporates generated AI. It is also among the waves of high-tech companies that provide sophisticated digital assistants called AI agents that can streamline boring and repetitive tasks.
AmazonFor example, in September, they debuted an AI agent that third-party merchants can use for online business.
“We help businesses drive the impact of customer experience and customer operations beyond advertising, beyond meta,” said Clara Shih, Meta’s business director, during a press conference.
Shih said that business AI digital assistants can be incorporated into meta ads, allowing customers to interact with Facebook and Instagram ads to ask product-related questions and buy items more easily. If these companies want to use Meta Business AI Assistant on their website, they will have to pay a price that has not yet been determined, which Shih said would be cheaper than other “market alternatives.”
“We’re entering new AI product categories that will improve our ads,” Sea said.
The Business AI Digital Assistant will also be available in WhatsApp and Messenger in Mexico and the Philippines later this month, with more markets coming in, Shih said.
If a company uses Business AI Digital Assistant on the Meta app and its retail-oriented website, Shih explained that the software should provide better responses to users responding to product-related inquiries.
Sea said Meta is affiliated with companies like its former employer. Salesforcesimilarly Microsoft, ServiceNowZendesk and others provide customer relationship management services and chatbots as part of their business AI push.
“The best analogy is when you, as a customer, ask sales representatives about warranty information or returns,” Shih said about how Meta’s business AI software works with a third-part chat app focused on customer support. “In many cases, they take you to a customer service desk and handle those more complicated requests.”
Meta previously spent $1 billion in 2020 to buy enterprise CRM startup Kustomer, but in 2023 it spun into an independent company during the social media giant’s “year of efficiency.”
The company has also debuted another tool called Meta AI Business Assistant. It aims to help advertisers access account issues and learn how to run advertising campaigns.
Watch: Meta paves the way for the industry rather than chasing quick profits.
