Kiev, Ukraine (AP) – President of Ukraine and head of the UN nuclear agency Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Station In southern Ukraine, external power was lost more than a week ago war I was furious around it.

The emergency diesel generators provide power to the facility’s six shutdown reactors and critical cooling systems for the fuel used, and there is no immediate danger to Europe’s largest nuclear power plants, according to the director of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Raphael Mariano Grossi.

But “it’s clearly not a sustainable situation in terms of nuclear safety,” he said.

According to Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky, the backup generator didn’t have to run that long.

“The generators and plants weren’t designed for this,” Zelensky said late Tuesday, describing the situation as “critical.”

Zaporizhzhia is one of the world’s largest nuclear power plants, and the fate caused by the battle Fear of a potential nuclear catastrophe. The Russian army seized it a few days after the full-scale invasion of adjacent Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.

Tensions over the safety of nuclear power plants added to wider concerns about the war process. There was nothing.

Zelenskyy denounced Russian artillery for cutting power lines on plants in Zaporizhzhia, but Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was a Ukrainian artillery fire.

“It’s stupid to condemn Russia’s control plants,” Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.

The Vienna-based IAEA is walking the tightrope in the war, wanting to maintain access to nuclear facilities and warn them of danger without angering either side. Ukraine has four nuclear power plants, but Zaporidia is the only nuclear power plant in Russia.

Grossi said Zaporizhzhia’s emergency generator was dealing with the excess stocks they had so far.

“The current state of reactor units and spent fuel is as stable as possible to provide enough power to maintain essential safety-related functions and cooling,” he said in a statement late Tuesday.

The factory’s IAEA team reports that there is fuel reserves, ensuring that the generator can operate for more than 10 days, and regular off-site supplies maintain this level.

“Nevertheless, it’s very important that offsite power is restored,” Grossi said, adding that he is in contact with Russian and Ukrainian officials about how to quickly reconnect plants to the grid.

According to an IAEA statement, it lost offsite power during the war on September 23rd.

According to the IAEA, eight emergency diesel generators are operating.

Last week, the plant said it was alternating between people using, using idle generators and providing services to ensure continuous availability.
