Daniel Day Lewis’ on-screen comeback was not a one-night decision.
Instead, the three-time Oscar winner, who announced his retirement from acting in 2017, was gradually seduced by his crafts, co-written anemone for a new psychological drama, along with his son Ronan Day Lewis.
“We started with the seeds of ideas. It was about working with something,” said 68-year-old Daniel E! News at the premiere of the New York Film Festival in New York City on September 28th. “Initially we discovered a common interest in exploring the ideas of brotherhood, so we started with two siblings in the shed.
According to Ronan, where the project serves as his directorial debut, registering his father in the lead role has proven useful during the writing process, but it has also become more open to bringing the Lincoln Star back to the camera.
“I think it’s when Ray starts to become more attractive (he) when the characters start to develop in their own congruence and in relation to each other,” explained the 27-year-old. “It was amazing to see the characters grow as actors and as co-writers. It was a truly unique process.”
