The music community laments pivotal artists.

Brett James, the songwriter responsible for “Yes, Take the Wheel,” died in a plane crash in North Carolina on September 18th, authorities confirmed to NBC News. He was 57 years old.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported to the crash site near the town of Franklin, and the organization confirmed to NBC News that three people died in the crash: James (full name Brett James Cornelius) and two women named Melody Carol and Meryl Maxwell Wilson.

The Federal Aviation Association (FAA) confirmed IT, and the National Traffic Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed in a statement shared with NBC News that it will investigate collisions involving Cirrus SR22T aircraft. The NTSB will lead the investigation.

The plane took off from John C-Tune Airport in Nashville on a CNN basis, citing flightware, in a field near Iotra Valley Elementary School in Franklin, before crashing southeast, about 270 miles southeast of the city. The local Macon County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a statement shared on social media that “all students and staff are safe” after the crash.
