Trump files $15 billion defamatory lawsuit against the New York Times

NEW YORK (AP) – President Donald Trump filed a $15 billion defamatory lawsuit against The New York Times and four journalists on Monday, according to court documents.

The lawsuit filed in US District Court in Florida, named several articles and a book written by journalists in two publications, and was published throughout the 2024 election, calling it “part of a decades-long pattern of malicious defamation losses against President Trump by the New York Times.”

“The defendants have recklessly issued such a statement, ignorantly ignoring the false knowledge of the statement and/or their truth or falsehood,” the lawsuit states.

The New York Times did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment early Tuesday.

In the true social post that announced the lawsuit, Trump accused the New York Times of lying about him, losing his honor and becoming a “virtual mouthpiece for the radical left Democrat.”
