Worker dies while rebuilding Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium

Barcelona soccer club announced that a construction worker has died during renovations to the Camp Nou stadium.
In a short statement released on Saturday, the Spanish club said it “deeply regrets the death of a worker who lost his life in a workplace accident yesterday”.

The club expressed its condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
Catalan police said the 54-year-old worker died from blows to the head. No further details about the situation were provided when contacted by The Associated Press.
Barcelona will begin a major renovation of Camp Nou, Europe’s largest soccer stadium, in 2023. Players returned to the venue in November, but fan seating was limited due to ongoing construction work.
The Catalan club have won Spain’s La Liga title in the past two seasons and will start the new season in Elche on August 23.
The first home game at Camp Nou, which was partially reopened during last year’s construction period, will be against Athletic Bilbao on August 27.
Once completed, it will have a capacity of 105,000 people, making it the largest in Europe.
