Senegal have been given an October deadline by CAS to reclaim the AFCON title they won in a chaotic final against Morocco in January.

Senegal’s appeal to reclaim the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, which they won in a closely contested final against hosts Morocco in January, will be heard by sport’s highest court on October 8.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced on Friday that the hearing would be held behind closed doors at its headquarters in Lausanne and that no target date for a ruling had been set.

It can typically take several months for CAS judges to announce their decisions.
Preparations for the appeal continued throughout the World Cup, with Morocco reaching the quarter-finals, but Senegal losing to Belgium in the last 32.
Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 in extra time in an extraordinary AFCON final held in Rabat. When Morocco was awarded a penalty kick in second-half stoppage time, Senegalese players left the field to delay play by 15 minutes, but it was ultimately saved.
A few weeks later, the Confederation of African Football’s appeal judges ruled that Senegal had defaulted by leaving the field, and the title was awarded to Morocco.
The ruling appeared to ignore football law, which states that the referee’s on-field decisions are final.
