Bangladesh registered a historic victory over Pakistan in the Test series at home after suffering a 78-run defeat to the visiting team in the second Test in Sylhet.
On the fifth day of play on Wednesday, spinner Taijul Islam bagged six wickets to guide the home team to a series victory.
Pakistan started the day with 316-7 and were chasing a record of 437, but were bowled out for 328 in the first session after Mohammad Rizwan hit a brave 94.
It was Bangladesh’s first Test series win against Pakistan at home and their second consecutive sweep after winning 2-0 on Pakistani soil in 2024.
Wicketkeeper Rizwan continued to chase Pakistan’s improbable victory with a 166-ball stay after the visiting team slumped to 162-5 on the fourth day.
Rizwan put up a partnership of 54 for eight wickets, while overnight partner Sajid Khan scored 28.
Taijul broke through and dismissed Sajid for five wickets in the 18th Test, while Shoriful Islam caught Rizwan in the next over to end Pakistan’s resistance.
Taijul took the last wicket of Furram Shahzad and returned figures of 120 for 6, sparking celebrations for Bangladesh.
The left-arm spinner took 67 for 3 during Pakistan’s first innings of 232.
Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das scored 126 runs in the first innings of 278.
Veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim scored 137 runs in the second innings, while Mahmudul Hasan Joy (52 runs) and Litton (69 runs) led Bangladesh to 390 runs.
Bangladesh, led by Nazimul Hossain Shanto, won the opening Test by 104 runs.
