Google has announced that in addition to offering its own vibe-coding tools for building on Android, it will also offer tools that enable AI agents to accelerate Android app development, including Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex, and Android Studio’s own Antigravity and Gemini.
Google shared on Tuesday at the annual Google I/O developer conference that its Android CLI (command line interface) is now stable at version 1.0, and users building with AI agents can use whatever coding platform they prefer.
This move acknowledges that many people are now building for Android using non-Google AI agents. The company is trying to find ways to make expertise like the one inside Android Studio more accessible.
The Android CLI allows AI agents to gain knowledge of Android development through a new “android Studio” command that lets you take advantage of Android Studio’s capabilities when building your own projects. From there, a variety of other commands and tools are available to the agent.
Google says its agent development platform, Google Antigravity, includes an optional bundle that installs the tools and knowledge included in the Android CLI to also perform core Android app development tasks.
