Harry Potter TV show recasts Ginny Weasley for season 2 due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’
The Chamber of Secrets will not be opened for Gracie Cochran.
HBO Max’s Harry Potter series has already undergone major cast changes for Season 2, losing one of its child actors before Season 1 even aired.
Gracie Cochran, the young actress who plays Ginny Weasley in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, will not appear in Season 2 of the fantasy series, according to a statement from HBO and Gracie’s family obtained by multiple broadcasters on May 18.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Gracie has made the difficult decision to step down from the role of Ginny Weasley on HBO’s Harry Potter series after the first season,” her family told Variety.
However, they stressed that Gracie, who co-starred with Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley) and Arabella Staunton (Hermione Granger), had only positive things to say about her time at Hogwarts.
“Her time as part of the Harry Potter universe has been truly amazing. She is deeply grateful to (casting director) Lucy Bevan and the entire production team for creating such an unforgettable experience,” the statement continued. “Gracie is very excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for her.”
