Bayern Munich’s Luis Diaz and Michael Olise scored late goals to give the hosts a dramatic 4-3 victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals and advance to the last four with a 6-4 aggregate win after a thrilling draw.

Goals from Dias in the 89th minute and Olise in stoppage time on Wednesday ensured Bayern a place in the semi-finals, where they will face holders Paris Saint-Germain.

A lively first half saw Real take the lead three times, with Alda Güler pouncing on a terrible mistake by Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer in the first minute and firing a free-kick into the top corner after Bayern equalized through Aleksandar Pavlovic’s header in the 29th minute.

Harry Kane leveled the hosts’ 2-1 win in the first leg in Spain with his 12th goal of the competition, before Vinicius Junior provided the perfect assist for Kylian Mbappé in the 42nd minute to make it 3-2.

Real were reduced to 10 men in the 86th minute after substitute Eduardo Camavinga received a second booking, giving Bayern their maximum advantage.

The match came to an ugly end in the 86th minute, prompted by Bayern players, with Madrid players furious after referee Slavko Vincic awarded Eduardo Camavinga a second yellow card for a seemingly innocuous foul on Kane.

After the final whistle, anger boiled over and Guler faced the referee and was given a red.

Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa said his team was “really upset and really angry” after receiving the red card.

“I can’t believe they would send a player off for this. There’s no way you would send someone off in a game like that. We’re really, really upset and really angry,” he told TNT Sports.

In Wednesday’s other quarter-final, Arsenal rode their luck to a tense goalless draw with Sporting Lisbon to win 1-0 on aggregate and advance to the Champions League semi-finals.

Mikel Arteta’s side were well below their best in the quarter-final second leg at the Emirates Stadium.

But they continued to defend their slim first-leg advantage as Sporting were unable to make them pay amid a growing list of worrying performances.

The Gunners will face Atletico Madrid for a place in the final after the Spanish club defeated Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate on Tuesday.
