The Portuguese coach was appointed after the sacking of coach Otto Addo and will lead the Black Stars at the FIFA World Cup.

With less than two months until the World Cup, Ghana has appointed Carlos Queiroz as the head coach of their men’s national team.
The Portuguese will take over the reins of Ghana’s preparations for the tournament with immediate effect, the country’s football association announced on Monday.

“The Ghana Football Association Board of Directors, in collaboration with all key stakeholders, has appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars,” the GFA said in a statement.
Queiroz, 73, resigned as Oman manager last month after Oman failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, but this will be his fifth consecutive World Cup appearance as manager with the Black Stars.
Ghana is without a coach 72 days before the start of the World Cup, parting ways with coach Otto Addo after friendly losses to Austria and Germany in March.
Queiroz led Portugal to the last 16 of the 2010 World Cup and then coached Iran in the final three of the tournament, posting three wins in 13 games.
The Mozambique-born former goalkeeper has also coached in Egypt, Japan, Colombia and South Africa, and even managed Portugal in the early 1990s.
“This is more than just a job. It’s a mission,” Queiroz said in a statement. “And I am ready to once again dedicate all my experience and knowledge to the game and to the well-being of people.”
Queiroz was chosen from over 600 applications from both Japan and abroad due to his extensive experience at the World Cup.
Ghana are included in Group L along with Croatia, England and Panama.
The Black Stars also have preliminary games scheduled against Mexico on May 22nd and Wales on June 2nd.
