Addo will leave the club after Ghana failed to qualify for AFCON 2025 after losing 2-1 to Germany in a friendly.

Ghana have parted ways with coach Otto Addo with 72 days remaining until kick-off of the FIFA World Cup, the Ghana Football Association announced hours after losing a friendly to Germany.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has terminated its agreement with the Head Coach of the Senior Men’s National Team, Mr. Otto Addo, with immediate effect,” the Ghana Football Association said in a statement on Monday.

No further details were provided about Mr. Addo’s replacement or the reason for his termination.

The loss to Germany in a friendly in Stuttgart was Ghana’s fifth consecutive friendly loss. Ghana also lost 5-1 against Austria on Friday.

Addo, a German-born former Borussia Dortmund player, was appointed to his second role in March 2024 after heading the Black Stars’ campaign at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, which ended in a group-stage exit.

Ghana defeated South Korea 3-2 in Qatar, but lost to Portugal and Uruguay and were eliminated in the group stage.

The 50-year-old Ghana has booked a spot in the upcoming North American World Cup, which is scheduled to open on June 17 against Panama in Toronto. They will be in Group L along with Croatia and England.

However, the four-time African Cup of Nations winners missed out on regional competition for the first time in 21 years, missing out on qualification for the coveted 2025 tournament in Morocco, despite having Premier League players Antoine Semenyo and Mohamed Kudus in their squad.

The shooting took place on March 30, 2026 in Stuttgart.
