Residents of the Gulf state awoke to the sound of new explosions on Monday morning, after a night of attacks across the region that saw Iran-backed Hezbollah join the growing conflict.
The situation is as follows.
Explosions in major cities: CNN reporting teams heard explosions in major Gulf cities including Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha on Monday morning local time. A CNN photojournalist captured what appeared to be a missile being intercepted in the sky over the Qatari capital. A CNN team heard “two consecutive explosions” in Dubai, what sounded like a jet and an interceptor flying overhead.
Bahrain: Sirens were sounded over Bahrain, the interior ministry said.
Lebanon: Israeli forces launched a series of attacks in Lebanon early Monday, including in the capital Beirut. The Israeli military said it had attacked “senior Hezbollah terrorists in the Beirut region” and ordered the evacuation of 52 settlements in the country’s south. Video geolocated by CNN shows the top floor of a building in flames in Gho Bayley, south of Beirut.
Israel: The Israeli military announced that Iran launched a new barrage of missiles toward Israel on Monday. Hezbollah and Israel exchanged attacks overnight after Hezbollah announced it had launched a “swarm of missiles and drones” at an Israeli military base south of Haifa “in retaliation” for the killing of Iran’s supreme leader. The Israeli military also said it had intercepted a projectile launched from Lebanon, and that another projectile had fallen in an open field.
KUWAIT: Early Monday morning local time, loud sounds rang out over Kuwait as air defense forces intercepted a “hostile drone” approaching the country via a “sea route,” state media reported.
Iran: Multiple explosions were reported overnight in Iran’s capital Tehran and other cities. A hospital in northern Tehran was severely damaged in an attack on Sunday and patients were evacuated, Iranian state media said.
Cyprus: The British Ministry of Defense says it has responded to a suspected drone attack on a British military base on the island of Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean.
