Katie Thurston talks about her breast cancer treatment plan
After receiving her stage 4 diagnosis, Katie gave an update on her treatment plan.
“The cancer in the liver is from breast cancer,” she said. “Basically speaking, my breast cancer will be the root and focus. Six rounds of chemotherapy will begin.”
But just before Katie was scheduled to begin this treatment, she received another update.
On April 4, 2025, she wrote on Instagram, “I was scheduled to start chemotherapy today.” “I was packing winter hats, winter socks, snacks, blankets, medicine, and entertainment. My aunt Lindsey was flying in this weekend to help me recover. However, yesterday, my liver, breast, and lymph node pathology results were all negative for HER2, even though my original sample as a Kaiser was HER2+. I got a call saying, “I’m going to have chemotherapy in just a few minutes.” Instead of taking steroids to prepare for chemotherapy, I head to the doctor to discuss why this happened, what tests are needed, and what this means for my new treatment plan. ”
As a result, Katie said, “chemotherapy seems to be off the table.”
“You should be excited about that,” she added. “But in the past two months, I’ve had three follow-up diagnostics. I think having a thorough diagnosis and getting a second opinion helped me on my path to the early stages of cancer.”
