Barron Trump, the son of the US president, witnessed the alleged assault during a video call with a female friend last year and alerted police in London, a British court has heard.

A recording of President Trump’s emergency phone call was shown during the trial of Matvey Rumyantsev, 22, at London’s Snaresbrook court on Wednesday, the PA media news agency reported.

Rumyantsev is charged with assault, actual bodily harm, two counts of rape, intentional strangulation and perverting the course of justice. He denies all charges. Rumyantsev’s lawyer declined to comment when contacted by CNN.

According to British media reports, the woman told the court on Wednesday that Mr. Trump’s intervention helped stop Mr. Rumyantsev from being killed.

“He saved my life. At that moment, that call was like a sign from God,” she said, British newspaper Metro reported.

Metro newspaper reported that Rumyantsev’s lawyer told the court that the woman’s claims were a “complete fabrication” and suggested the defendant had detained her due to the fact that she was “angry and violent”.

The court heard that Trump, now 19, called police on January 18, 2025, after speaking to a woman who cannot be named for legal reasons, PA Media reported.

“I’m calling from the United States. I got a call from a girl…she’s being beaten,” Trump said, according to a transcript of the call with police.

“This happened about eight minutes ago. I just figured out how, how to call someone. It really is an emergency.”

Police investigating the charges then asked President Trump if he was willing to provide witness statements. Trump wrote in an email to police that what he witnessed was “certainly very brief, but certainly widespread,” a court heard Thursday.

“Due to the time difference, I did not expect her to come pick me up,” Trump wrote in an email sent on May 2, 2025.

“The phone is answered,” he added.

“The person who responded was a shirtless man with dark hair. The scene lasted maybe a second… and then it switched to the victim’s perspective,” Trump said, adding that the woman “told her this person had been giving her a hard time for a long time.”

Jurors said police responded to Trump’s email but did not receive a reply or a follow-up communication sent on July 1.

The trial continues. CNN has reached out to the White House for comment.
