Manchester City have signed Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in a bid to strengthen the team’s attacking options as they bid for Premier League and Champions League titles.

Semenyo has been one of the best attackers in English football this season, scoring 10 goals, and on Friday became the European giants’ first signing in the January transfer window.

He has signed a contract worth a total of £65 million (approximately $87 million) until the end of the 2031 season.

The 26-year-old, who can play on either wing, has scored 10 goals this season, the third most in the Premier League. He also recorded three assists.

“I have been following City for the past 10 years under Josep Guardiola and they have not only been the dominant team in the Premier League, but also achieved great results in the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup,” Semenyo said in a statement.

“They are a club that sets the highest standards and has world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest managers in Pep’s history.

“Being at this club at this stage of my career is perfect for me as I have a lot of room for improvement. It’s a real honor to be here. My best football is yet to come, I’m sure of that.”

He will give City’s winger squad, which already includes Jeremy Doku, Omar Marmouche, Sabinho and Oscar Bobb, a competitive edge. Sabinho and Bob are currently injured, while Marmouche, who is currently playing in the African Cup of Nations, has not played this season.

Semenyo has also been linked with a move to Manchester United or Liverpool. After joining from second-tier Bristol City, he spent two and a half seasons at Bournemouth.
