LIV Golf announced Tuesday that five-time major champion Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the high-paying World Tour ahead of the 2026 season.

Koepka, 35, has one year left on his contract with LIV and has not yet said whether he intends to return to the PGA Tour. He left in June 2022 when LIV signed him to a $100 million contract to compete with the PGA Tour.

“We have amicably and mutually agreed that Brooks Koepka will no longer play in the LIV Golf League after the 2025 season,” LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neill said in a statement. “Brooks is prioritizing the needs of his family and staying close to home.”

Koepka’s tenure at LIV was full of ups and downs. LIV’s confidence got a huge boost when he won the 2023 PGA Championship after spending most of the day playing in LIV’s relatively non-competitive environment, which features a 54-hole, no-cut tournament.

Meanwhile, Koepka occasionally expressed frustration with his situation, sounding as if the 2017 and 2018 U.S. Open champion and 2018, 2019 and 2023 PGA titlist was ticking the time.

“There’s a contractual obligation to fulfill here, and we’ll see what happens after that,” Koepka said at an LIV event.

His third-party public statements provided no hints about his future.

“Brooks Koepka will be leaving LIV Golf. He is deeply grateful to Yasir Al Rumayyan, Scott O’Neal, and the LIV Golf leadership team, teammates, and fans. His family has always guided Brooks’ decisions and he is now Brooks continues to be a huge supporter of LIV Golf and wishes the league and its players the best of luck.”Brooks remains passionate about golf and will continue to update fans on future developments. ”

Koepka will be eligible to play in all four majors next year thanks to his 2023 PGA Championship win, but the PGA Tour requires LIV defectors to sit out a year after their last LIV tournament. His last appearance was at a one-day LIV golf event in Michigan on August 24th.

The PGA Tour may offer a waiver, but chose not to provide any hints in a statement.

“Brooks Koepka is an exceptional professional and we wish him and his family continued success. The PGA Tour continues to provide the best professional golfers with the most competitive, rewarding and lucrative environment in their pursuit of greatness.”

LIV Golf is funded by the Public Investment Fund, Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund.
