In perfect timing, the camera panned to the Avengers actress, who has a three-year-old son, Cosmo, with Colin, and is also mother to a 10-year-old daughter, Rose, with ex-husband Romain Dauriac. She stood visibly shocked by the joke and uttered the words, “Oh my god!”
“No, no, I’m just playing, baby,” Colin continued, laughing as he read out the joke from the cue card. “You know I don’t go downtown.”
Months later, Scarlett, 41, opened up about her visceral reaction to the wisecracks.
“I can’t believe they went there,” the Jurassic World star told InStyle in an interview published March 11. “It was very vile. It was very disgusting. It was really disgusting. And just plain disgusting.”
And even Colin admitted that the joke probably went too far.
“I’m in trouble like a lot of people,” he said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in January. “Scarlett was really shocked.”
“Obviously I was surprised by the whole thing,” he continued. “But they gave her a heads up and were like, ‘Hey, would you be okay if Michael did a little genital joke sometime?'” And she was like, ‘Sure, I’m open to anything.’ ”
And while he didn’t know where the joke was going when he first read it live, he knew right away it was going to raise some eyebrows.
As Colin explained, “This graphic was something we came up with for Arby’s, and Scarlett was behind the scenes like, ‘Oh my god, that’s it.'”
