Hollywood is mourning a beloved power couple.
Rob Reiner and his wife of 36 years, Michelle Singer Reiner (a producer on the director’s latest sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues), were found dead in an apparent murder in their Los Angeles home on December 14, a source close to the family confirmed to NBC News.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic deaths of Michelle and Rob Reiner,” the family said in a statement to Variety. “We are heartbroken by the sudden death and ask for privacy at this incredibly difficult time.”
The news shocked the film world, with Elijah Wood, who starred in Robb’s 1994 film North, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “Shocked to hear of the passing of Rob Reiner and his wonderful wife Michelle.”
Meanwhile, Paul Feig paid tribute to the When Harry Met Sally filmmaker and his longtime girlfriend, writing, “Rob was a true hero of mine. A true visionary, a giant, and a sweet, lovable person. You never know if it’s appropriate to post in the midst of such a tragic event, but I just want the world to know what so many in this industry know: Rob was the best.”
