Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford has said he wants to remain at the Spanish club beyond his loan spell from Manchester United, explaining the move was a necessary change after spending his entire career in England.
Barcelona are now paying Rashford’s wages during his season-long loan, as the Manchester-born player accepted a pay cut with an option to buy, set at around 30 million euros ($35 million).

Rashford’s contract with United runs until 2028, but his future at Old Trafford looks bleak after falling out with manager Ruben Amorim last year. The 27-year-old then rediscovered his form under Barcelona coach Hansi Flick.
“For sure,” Rashford told ESPN on Thursday when asked if he wanted to stay at Barcelona. “I enjoy this football club. For those who love football, I think Barcelona is one of the most important clubs in the history of football. This is an honor for the players.”
The England international first found form last season during a short loan spell at Aston Villa, but he has taken another step forward at Barcelona, scoring five goals and providing six assists in 12 games across all competitions.
Ahead of his first El Clasico on Sunday, Rashford said the move abroad has given him a new perspective.
“People forget this, but 23 years of my life were spent at Manchester United, so sometimes you need a change. I think this is probably the case for me. I’m enjoying everything,” he said.
